Stained Concrete
Staining concrete is one of the most versatile ways to enhance the look of an exterior or interior concrete slab. Stains can be applied to new and old concrete slabs as well as cementitious overlays. Durability is unmatched because concrete stains penetrate deeply into the surface where they are able to produce permanent colors that are fade resistant. Designs are endless with concrete stains, and can suit the design tastes to anything imaginable. From adding subtle hints of color, bold design accents, stencils, hand engraving, designs are endless.
There are two main types of concrete stains, which are acid-based chemical stains and water based stains. Both of these types of stains have different effects on the concrete. Acid stains react chemically with the concrete to create natural color variation, and mottling effects that can resemble the appearance of marble or granite. Acid stain color selections are limited though. Water based stains work by pigment flowing into the pores of the concrete. Water based stains come in a wider spectrum of colors and can be mixed to create a custom color as well. After the staining process there are a variety of topcoats to choose from that will depend on the use of the floor.
Overlay Systems
These overlays are applied using a hopper gun to spray the cement-based topping. The most common technique is to “knockdown” the sprayed cement beads with a trowel to give it texture.
The finished product of the spray-down system ranges from using a single color sealer with no patterns to multi integral colored cement, stains, borders, and extensive patterns to mimic the look of brick, stone, slate, and tile.

The troweled overlay system has unlimited amounts of variety. The textures can range from smooth to a skip trowel look, among others. The skip trowel look is becoming one of the most prevalent techniques which mimics the look of Venetian plaster.
The troweled overlay is very versatile and the use of integral color, stains, borders, hand engraved, and stencils can be used to give our customer a one of kind custom floor.
